How CADFusion Applies Rounding Angles to Outside Corners

CADFusion uses a Rounding Angle property when you create an offset of a shape. You can create an offset of a shape in all of the ways that follow:

• When you create a new shape that is the result of applying an offset to a shape that is in your project. Refer to Create an Offset of a Shape for more information.
• When you use a Border Offset or an Offset hatch style to create a hatch.

You must specify the Rounding angle property in the range of 0° – 180°:

• If you do not want CADFusion to round the outside corners, specify an angle of 0° for the rounding angle property.
• If you want CADFusion to round all of the outside corners, specify an angle of 180° for the rounding angle property.

When you specify the Rounding angle property, CADFusion rounds outside corners that are part of the offset that you applied to the shape. It rounds outside corners only if the angles that the corners form on the offset are less than the value that you specified for the Rounding angle property. If the corners form angles that are equal to or greater than the value of the rounding angle property, CADFusion does not round the outside corners.

How CADFusion Applies the Rounding Angle Property

When you create an inward or outward offset of a shape and specify a rounding angle for the outside corners, CADFusion uses these steps to determine if it will apply or ignore the Rounding angle property.

1. CADFusion uses the original shape to identify the corners as inside or outside corners based on the values of their angles.

   • Inside corners are corners where the angle is between 0° and 180°. They occur on the inside or outside of the shape where you create the offset.

   • Outside corners are corners where the angle is between 180° and 360°. They occur on the inside or outside of the shape where you create the offset.

2. For each outside corner, CADFusion looks at the inward or outward offset and does one of the steps that follow:
   • If the angle that an outside corner forms on the offset is less than the value of the rounding angle property, CADFusion rounds the outside corner of the offset. Refer to the example that follows for more information.
   • If the angle that the outside corner forms on the offset is equal to or greater than the value of the rounding angle property, CADFusion does not round the outside corner of the offset.
   Example: Applying the Rounding Angle Property to an Outside Corner

   In the figure that follows, you first create an outward offset of the shape. You specify a Rounding Angle of 180° in order to round the outside corners. The original shape has 12 corners, four of which are inside corners and eight of which are outside corners. All of the inside corners are 90° and all of the outside corners are 270°.

   CADFusion starts by identifying the inside and outside corners. It does not round inside corners because the rounding angle property does not apply to them.

   Then for each outside corner, CADFusion finds the angle that the corner forms on the offset. For the 270° outside corner in this shape, that angle is 90°. Because 90° is less than the value that you specified for the rounding angle property, CADFusion rounds the corner of the offset.
